Starts at today — pick any date to look it up.

What is today's date?

The date at the top of the result is today's date on your device, with the weekday, the day number in the year and the week number. It updates every time you open the page.

What day of the year is it?

Count the days since January 1, which is day 1. September 26, 2026 is day 269 of 365, with 96 days left in the year. In a leap year, every date after February 28 is one day higher.

What week number is it?

This calculator uses the ISO 8601 week, the international standard: weeks start on Monday, and week 1 is the one with the year's first Thursday. September 26, 2026 is in week 39. Because 2026 starts on a Thursday, it has 53 weeks.

What quarter of the year is it?

Quarter 1 is January to March, quarter 2 April to June, quarter 3 July to September and quarter 4 October to December. Many companies use a different fiscal year, so check before using it for business reports.

When is the next federal holiday?

The result shows the next US federal holiday and how many days away it is. After Labor Day on September 7, 2026, the next is Columbus Day on Monday, October 12.

What is an ordinal date?

A date written as the year and the day number, such as 2026-185 for July 4, 2026. ISO 8601 defines this format, and it is used in logistics, military and some data systems because it avoids month lengths. The first day of the year is 001 and the last is 365, or 366 in a leap year.

Why does January 1 sometimes fall in week 52 or 53?

ISO weeks belong to the year that contains their Thursday, so the first days of January can belong to the last week of the previous year, and the last days of December to week 1 of the next. For example January 1, 2027 is in ISO week 53 of 2026, and December 31, 2028 is in week 52 of 2028.

How the day number is found

The day of the year is the number of days from January 1 of that year, counting January 1 as day 1. In a common year the months have 31, 28, 31, 30, 31, 30, 31, 31, 30, 31, 30 and 31 days; in a leap year February has 29. Add the full months before the date to the day of the month. The remaining days in the year are the length of the year minus the day number.

Worked example: March 1 and the leap year

March 1 is day 60 of 2027 (31 + 28 + 1 = 60) but day 61 of 2028, because 2028 is a leap year with 29 days in February. December 31, 2028 is day 366, the last day of that year. July 4, 2026 is day 185 of 365, so 180 days remain in the year. The ISO week for Monday, December 28, 2026 is week 53 of 2026, since 2026 is a 53-week year.

Common mistakes

Forgetting the leap day shifts every date after February by one. Mixing up the week systems is another: the ISO week starts on Monday and week 1 contains the first Thursday, while some calendars (including common US ones) start weeks on Sunday and call the week with January 1 week 1, so the two numbers can differ by one for the same date. Finally, a fiscal year or a school year does not start on January 1, so a day number in the calendar year is not a day number in the fiscal year.
